Was I overcharged?
Already paid the bill and got that sinking feeling? Enter your reg, pick the job, type what you paid — and see instantly how it compares to what UK independent garages actually charge for your exact car.
What to do if you were overcharged
1. Get the itemised invoice. Parts and labour split out. "Miscellaneous workshop items" is where padding hides.
2. Compare like for like. A £480 "service" that included pads and a battery isn't overcharging — a £480 oil-and-filter service is.
3. Raise it with the garage first. Under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 work must be done with reasonable care and at a reasonable price where none was agreed. Most garages will talk.
4. Escalate. If they won't engage: The Motor Ombudsman (free) if they're accredited, or a Letter Before Action and small claims for clear-cut cases.
