Privacy Policy
This privacy policy explains how MyRepairCost handles your data. The short version: we collect almost nothing, and we don't sell anything.
Who we are
MyRepairCost is operated by a sole trader based in the United Kingdom. The service is a free price-check tool and information guide for UK car owners. You can contact us at myrepaircost@outlook.com.
What data we collect
When you use the price-check tool by entering a vehicle registration:
- Your registration number is sent to the DVLA's Vehicle Enquiry Service and the DVSA's MOT History API via secure server-side requests
- The DVLA returns basic vehicle information (make, year, engine size, fuel type, MOT and tax status) and the DVSA returns the model, which we use to calculate price estimates
- We do not store the registration number or the returned data after the check is complete
- We do not link your check to any account, cookie, or identifier
When you visit any page on the site, our hosting provider (Netlify) may automatically log standard server information including your IP address, browser type, and the pages you visit. This is used solely to keep the service running and prevent abuse.
What we don't collect
- We do not require sign-up or accounts
- We do not use tracking cookies, advertising cookies, or analytics that identify individuals
- We do not sell, rent, or share your data with third parties for marketing purposes
- We do not build profiles on visitors
Legal basis for processing
Under UK GDPR, our legal basis for processing your registration is legitimate interest — providing you with the price-check service you've requested. If you don't want your registration submitted to the DVLA, simply don't use the price-check tool.
Your rights
Under UK GDPR you have the right to access, correct, or delete personal data we hold about you. Since we don't store registration data after each lookup, there is typically nothing to access or delete. If you have any questions or concerns, contact myrepaircost@outlook.com.
You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk if you believe your data has been mishandled.
Third-party services
We use the following third-party services to run the site:
- Netlify — hosts the website and processes the price-check requests
- DVLA Vehicle Enquiry Service — provides basic vehicle data (make, year, engine, fuel, MOT/tax status) when you submit a registration
- DVSA MOT History API — provides the vehicle model, which makes our price estimates more accurate
- Google Fonts — serves the typefaces used on the site
Each of these has their own privacy policy.
Changes to this policy
