Ford Galaxy service and repair costs (UK 2026)
A Ford Galaxy full service costs £160–£250 at a fair independent garage in 2026, with an interim at £100–£160 and a clutch at £480–£850 fitted. Cheap servicing for a seven-seater. The catch is that most Galaxys are hard-worked diesels, and hard-worked diesels have habits: flywheels, soot filters and, on automatics, the Powershift gearbox. Fair prices for all of it below.
Galaxy garage prices in 2026
These are fair independent prices, parts and labour in. A Ford main dealer will ask noticeably more for the same jobs, a gap we break down in our dealer vs independent garage prices guide, and on a family bus doing taxi duty every day of the week, those savings compound fast.

The faults Galaxy owners actually see
Powershift automatic trouble. The Powershift is Ford's twin-clutch automatic, two robot-operated clutches pretending to be a normal auto, and on 2010 to 2013 diesels especially it has a poor record. Symptoms are jerky shifts, shuddering pull-aways, gears that select but don't drive, and warning lights. Some cases are software recalibration. Worn clutch packs are a big-money gearbox specialist job, so on any used automatic Galaxy, a smooth unhurried test drive in stop-start traffic is your best pre-purchase check.
Dual mass flywheel rattle on diesels. The dual mass flywheel is the heavy two-piece plate the clutch grips, designed to soak up diesel vibration, and on the 2.0 diesel it wears out. A rattle at idle or shutdown and vibration through the pedals are the signs. It's usually replaced with the clutch, which is why a Galaxy clutch job at £480–£850 can grow once the flywheel is added, so ask for the with-flywheel price up front.
Blocked DPF. The DPF is the exhaust soot filter, and it only cleans itself on longer, faster runs. A Galaxy that lives on school runs will clog it, bringing limp mode and an engine light. A professional clean is £190–£420. One brisk motorway half-hour a fortnight is the free alternative.
AdBlue system faults on 2015-on diesels. AdBlue is the liquid the newer diesels inject into the exhaust to cut emissions, and its pump, sensors and injector all fail with age, triggering countdown warnings that threaten the car won't restart. Real faults, but often just a sensor, so get a proper diagnosis for £40–£75 before anyone quotes a whole system.
Limp mode and power loss on the 2.0 TDCi. Older Galaxys are known for intermittent power loss, typically a tired turbo sensor, a clogged EGR valve, the valve that recycles exhaust gas into the engine and gums up with soot, at £210–£500, or a split boost hose. Cheap causes first, always.
Timing belt: a bigger job on this car
Diesel Galaxys use a timing belt, and our fair range of £500–£900 is higher than a typical hatchback belt for two reasons: access in the crowded engine bay, and the water pump and extras that should always be done at the same time. On 2015-on 2.0 diesels the belt runs in oil, so correct-spec oil changed on time is what keeps it alive. There's no chain option to worry about, just do the belt when it's due and use the right oil.
Servicing intervals for a working seven-seater
Every 12 months or 12,500 miles, alternating the £100–£160 interim with the £160–£250 full service. A loaded seven-seater eats consumables faster than the family hatch it's based on, so expect front pads at £115–£200 more often, and have the suspension checked yearly since drop links at £90–£170 and ball joints at £200–£380 carry more weight here than in most cars. Brake fluid every two years at £50–£90.
Is a Ford Galaxy expensive to maintain?
The manual diesel is honestly cheap for its size. Servicing, brakes and suspension all sit at ordinary Ford prices, just consumed a little faster because the car is big and usually full. The money risks are concentrated in three places: Powershift automatics, the flywheel-and-clutch combination, and emissions kit on neglected diesels. Buy a manual with history, drive it properly once a fortnight, and a Galaxy is a lot of car for hatchback running costs.
Keeping quotes honest
The classic Galaxy overcharge is replacing the DPF when a £190–£420 clean would have done, followed closely by quoting a full AdBlue system for a single failed sensor. Ask for the fault codes and the itemised quote, compare against the table above, and if a bill already smells wrong, our overcharging guide walks you through challenging it.
Common questions
How much does a Ford Galaxy service cost?
A full service on a Ford Galaxy costs £160–£250 at an independent garage in 2026, an interim £100–£160. That's ordinary Ford money for a seven-seater. Alternate the two yearly, add a £50–£90 brake fluid change every two years, and use an independent rather than a dealer to keep costs down.
Are Ford Galaxy Powershift gearboxes reliable?
The Powershift twin-clutch automatic is the Galaxy's weakest point, particularly on 2010 to 2013 diesels. Jerky shifts, shudder and lost drive are the warning signs. Some faults are fixed with software recalibration, but worn clutch packs mean a specialist gearbox job, so test drive any automatic Galaxy thoroughly before buying.
Why is my Ford Galaxy rattling at idle?
On a diesel Galaxy a rattle at idle or engine shutdown usually points to the dual mass flywheel, the heavy plate the clutch grips, wearing out. It's normally replaced together with the clutch, £480–£850 for the clutch itself, with the flywheel adding to the bill. Get the combined quote up front.
How much is a timing belt on a Ford Galaxy?
A timing belt kit costs £500–£900 fitted on a Ford Galaxy, more than a typical hatchback because access is tight and the water pump should be done at the same time. On 2015-on diesels the belt runs in oil, so on-time oil changes with the correct spec are essential.
What does the AdBlue warning on my Galaxy mean?
AdBlue is the emissions fluid newer diesel Galaxys inject into the exhaust. A warning with a countdown means the system has detected a fault, often just a sensor or the pump, and the car will refuse to restart if ignored. A £40–£75 diagnostic identifies the real culprit before you pay for a whole system.
